a verse for the new site. Our planet has changed its location. It's still squeaky clean and quite bare. But we're all finding our way over. It'll feel like home when the gang is all there
Mr. TP why don't you start a freaking poll? Or are you afraid of the result?
1: I want to keep the original freaking tennisblog! 2: Yeah I really want a risky move to a blogsite for toddlers! 3: I want TP to stop his freaking blog adventure by now! 4: I want TP to keep wasting his time with useless tennis trivia no matter on which blogsite!
If the result is 2 and/or 4 you could try this online import tool: http://wordpress2blogger.appspot.com/ Watch out the wp export file (?) is limited to only 1 megabyte. Then it's maybe a good idea to try this little helper with a dummy testblog (ie trialtennisplanet2.blogspot...). This is just a suggestion. Good luck dear Mr. TP.
M --- clicked on your word "this" and got a page that means nothing to me -- I really was better on the old site -- difficult to teach an old dog new tricks
*little headshake* Stella, if I didn't know it was you talking it could've been my mom commenting. LOL!
As I tell her - none of us was born knowing how to do this stuff, and, in your case, it's not like you were born knowing how to write great verse! :-D
We have to learn how to do pretty much everything. It's the 21st century; we're all in the age of lifelong learning now.
Even our mighty tenistas have to practice, LOL! I say if Rafa can learn a practically brand new serve, and Roger can learn new shots and strategies to adjust for new circumstances, we can all learn HTML, LOL.
(Of course, if that's a cover for saying one doesn't want to learn it, LOL! But that's a slightly different discussion ...)
Anyway. For those who *do* want to learn, I will admit that some of these guides can talk in ridiculously technical vocabulary. So, using examples that are hopefully more germane to our little world here, I will try to translate.
The site says:
"Attribute for '<'A ...'>' HREF = "URL"
HREF indicates the URL being linked to. HREF makes the anchor into a link. So, for example, this tag creates a link to resumepage.html "
-- which does, admittedly, sound like gibberish.
So.
1) I've noticed more than one person has asked what "URL" stands for. It stands for Uniform Resource Locator -- or, in more plain English, the little link we type in the upper rectangle of our browser window when we want to go to a site.
So, in the example Jenny was talking about, if we want to see the Valencia draw, we have to find out its "address" on the web, which is
2) Now. If we want to let people know what they're going to be looking at – that is, if we want to label that link "Valencia Draw" instead of just copy-pasting the link and have people wonder what they're going to be looking at, we have to *tell* the Blogspot site that in a language that *it* understands.
That's why we have to use the phrase "a href= " -- with the carats (I'm sorry I can't use the carats themselves to demonstrate, but Blogspot won't let me post the carats by themselves; it reads them as incorrect HTML :-( ) -- when we talk to the computer (minus the quotes!).
So what this means
HREF indicates the URL being linked to
is that we're telling the computer, "Take the viewer to this site", and in order to do that, we have to
a) type in the comment box a href= -- again, with "open carat" just before the 'a'
b) then, in quotes, put the link -- in this case, http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2010/573/mds.pdf -- where we want people to go
c) then add the 'close carat' symbol (Shift + period on most QWERTY keyboards)
d) then put in the phrase that tells people where they're going (in this case, "Valencia Draw")
e) and finally, add 'open carat', then /a, then 'close carat' again.
That tells the computer people should click on the phrase "Valencia Draw" to go to the "Valencia Draw" link.
I know, I know, it looks complicated. The more you practice, the less complicated it will look – though I hope the explanation made it less complicated, instead of more, LOL!
Hope that helps. Practice, practice! :-D
(P.S. Bolding and italics are another lesson, if you're wondering. One thing at a time. :-D )
M --- I still haven't a clue what you are talking about. i suppose the thing that seems weird to me is that it is one long thread. If i want to ask a question about something you've said i have to ask it way at the bottom and not immediately after your comment. i post and browse by clicking. If this doesn't work i'm lost --- eg Rafafan gave a http address but i can't click on it to open and look at it. Is this what you're referring to with all this URL stuff? . I too preferred the other colour with the dandelions. Also TP the font is rather tiny and pale for those of us whose eyesight is less than perfect. Can this be altered. Finally M --- how do you know that I'm not your mother?
so its me again , and really M, I'm trying but .................. top left, written in blue is Swiss indoors Basel. But if i put my cursur on it and click nothing happens. So it sounds like i have to go to the comment box and put something about a HREf and a carat ( i thought that was the weight of a diamond) and a copy and paste or, or ,or I haven't a clue. Easier to go to the ATP website and click on it there. If you are under 40 it's such an advantage. Everything with computers, blogs, etc changes so fast it really is hard for those of us who played 35 years with a wooden racquet
1) "top left, written in blue is Swiss indoors Basel. But if i put my cursur on it and click nothing happens."
That's because it's just a title. If you move down to where it says stuff like "Draw" and "LiveScore", you can click on that just like on the old site.
2) "So it sounds like i have to go to the comment box and put something about a HREf and a carat ( i thought that was the weight of a diamond) and a copy and paste"
Yes, this is exactly right. (See how easy! :-) )
1st - open carat (shift + comma) 2nd - a href="" 3rd - insert your URL (that's the link you want people to go to) between the quotes 4th - close carat (shift + period) 5th - write text that will describe the link you want people to go to 6th - open carat, type /a, close carat
3) "eg Rafafan gave a http address but i can't click on it to open and look at it. Is this what you're referring to with all this URL stuff?"
You are less lost than you think. That is exactly right! (So, as our tenistas say, "No excuses!" LOL)
4) "( i thought that was the weight of a diamond)"
This is also true. LOL!
5) "Finally M --- how do you know that I'm not your mother?"
Then if you do not want to kill your daughter, please to not make her laugh so hard she almost chokes. :-D
If RafaFan had added the HTML tags we'd just finished going through,
we'd be able to click directly on the link, b/c it would be here.
(Also, if you have Google Chrome, you can select the text of the link, and the browser will give you the choice of going there in another tab. You can also copy the text of the link (URL again!) and paste it into another browser window. There's a workaround for everything. :-) )
I need to read this all in the clear light of day. I'd rather go play tennis than learn all this stuff--- except we've got snow on the ground so tennis is done for a while
Well, you know that at least you can do something some of us alleged young-uns can't do at all -- even before I ran into my knee trouble post-dance, my own personal tennis was not a pretty sight. At. All.
"I'd rather go play tennis than learn all this stuff--- "
Well ... you know Rafa is a bit of a gadgethead, and can do both.
but --- how do I find out the HTML code for a picture, such as a photo of Edberg that I'd like to post. Surely having to know this HTML stuff is a giant step backwards over the old site
Hubby --- who spent 40 yeas in hi tech and is lots better than I, has something on his computer called Kompozer ( or similar spelling ) that turns things into their HTML code --- could TP use this on this site to make things easier . I've tried all ways to try to find a code for my Edberg photo but cannot
If you right-click on the picture you want, you should see a command in the list that says "copy image URL".
Copy that, and paste it between the quotes in our HREF commands. Then (with certain exceptions we won't get into now, unless someone else can continue today, 'cause I have to go) you should get this
thanks M. for all your help. I'm still experimenting --- now that tennis is winding down I'm going to try posting a Youtube cat video. for cat lovers out there the Simon's Cat series is hilarious. Here ( if it works) is the first one simons cat video

Stella, Aren't they great, Simon really understands cats. We have adopted a new cat, btw. He's wonderful in every way. We lost our boy in August to bone cancer.
sorry to hear of that Jenny. How old was he?. What is your new one like? Can you post a photo. ? I think you create a Photobucket site or similar and then post the URL that M has been teaching us about complete with carats and href's. Or just post the URL and we copy and paste it into the browser. I'd love to see it. Is it a kitten? furry?
for Clijsters fans out there and just to prove that I'm no dinosaur and can post a link !!! here is an article I found about Clijsters future plans. Clijsters future plans
Hi M. Last night I had a private tutorial ( after you left) from my resident computer geek ( hubby with 40 years in the electronics industry) . Well, most of it got figured out but we believe that if I want to post a photo that is in my private computer files I have to put it on a site like Photobucket first. Other pics on the webcI was able to find a source code although your right click technique didn't work. BTW he reckond that having to know how to write HTML code to post on a blog is a massive step backwards after the Wordpress site. Have you heard of Kompozer? He uses that sometimes. And, I'm definitely not your mother !!! Played tennis outdoors today though 3 degrees C
We don't even own a camera these days, seriously, ladies. We use the one on our mobiles. My late cat was just 8yrs old, Stella. Just 3wks weeks from initial mild symptoms. It was a heartbreaking time for us. We've called our new cat Teddy [long story, M], he's a 6yr fawn Oriental shorthair, we didn't want a kitten.
@ Banti - if you go to the 2nd page here, we have the Basel draw posted. Maybe we can use that in a pinch?
@ Stella - can I have some lessons with the Kompozer-Master you have at home? LOL!
At least, please ask him if we attach the "&player_embedded" suffix to our YouTube vids, we can watch them right here on the site, instead of having to link to the YouTube site.
M -- I'll ask him what your comment means !! Yesterday at 7.24 ( if you look further up the thread) I posted a Youtube video called Simons CAt and you can whatch it here on the site --- just click where I wrote Simons Cat video
Thank you M san. I hope either Federer san or Rafael san win. Oops ( I miss the pink face smiley) sorry Cilic san and Dent san. Good luck to both of you too but ..I have to be pick someone. :a smiling smiley:
Thank you M san for the cute picture of Edberg san ( I really do not know him) . I really envy you knowing how to do that!! Wow!! I think it brightens our new site with such talent. Stella san may be you can find out how to do smileys here?? Yes!!
I took a quick trip over to the previous site this morning, and it looks like it isn't displaying the latest comments anymore, [as per the right side] those posted by Bunnee, Jett, BonnyBee. Jett is on board here but Bunnee isn't as yet.
Feli is something else - he was well leading Murray to take the second set, he let him back in and lost the match in the breaker. Sorry, Feli, you've only got yourself to blame.
Chieko San -- I'll bet if the pilot game was in Japan and not cities of Europe you'd be lots better. As far as Edberg is concerned he was a fine gentleman, a good sportsman and a wonderful player. He played in the serve and volley style and had a serve that set up a first volley and then he'd finish the point with a 2nd volley ( often). He retired young -- found it hard to volley when the younger players were hitting the ball so hard. Now he plays on the Seniors tour -- last year the Seniors tour final in London at the Royal Albert Hall was Edberg against Pat Rafter -- another favourite of mine. Here is a famous point played by Edberg agaiinst ( I believe ) Aaron Kriekstein. best tennis point ever
I'm in trouble. Tennisplanet.wordpress was the only way i could get here. I would go to wordpress then click on Tp's new site and it brought me here. Now Wordpress doesn't have a TP link anymore and when I go to tennisplanet2.blogspot.com it tells me I have to have a google account, which I don't, not only that, but I tried to get one and I screwed it up. The way I got here-now-is by clickicking on a link when I started typing in the address (blogspot) and it brought me to this site. My problem comes when I erase my history which I do every day. See what I mean? HELP or GOODBYE, everyone. If I don't make it back, it's been great.
Valencia Draw
ReplyDeleteHi M san, nice to meet you here.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting the Valencia draw, M. Interesting players in both tourneys - I'm dipping into both. You must tell me how to post these links.
ReplyDeleteHi Cheiko san.
It would be really helpful if we could have recent comments [names] displayed on the right hand side column?
ReplyDeletejust settling down to watch Clijsters v Woz with my man Nouni in the chair

Stella, that was just fabulous. Thank you. :-)
ReplyDeleteKonichiwa, Chieko san!
(Did I get that right? *is anxious*)
Nice to see you made your way over here! :-)
Jenny, I'm hoping this might be better for a link-posting "how to" than my (possibly garbled) attempts to explain. Hope it's helpful. :-)

I'm sorry, M - It dosn't mean anything to me either, but thank you for trying.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Fed video, RafaFan.
You all, I'm sorry for not making it any clearer. Maybe someone else can explain it better.
ReplyDeleteOh, no! Black background?!
ReplyDeleteBack to previous, please...
I thought it my eyes!. I know it's supposed to be easier to read, but I preferred the previous.

ReplyDeleteI just played Stella san's pilot game. I score very very poorly. I am glad I am not a pilot, can you imagine!!
ReplyDeleteI took a quick trip over to the previous site this morning, and it looks like it isn't displaying the latest comments anymore, [as per the right side] those posted by Bunnee, Jett, BonnyBee. Jett is on board here but Bunnee isn't as yet.
ReplyDelete2nd posting, first didn't register - the other site is still active
ReplyDeleteFeli is something else - he was well leading Murray to take the second set, he let him back in and lost the match in the breaker. Sorry, Feli, you've only got yourself to blame.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Aey in Bangkok on Nov 1st!!
ReplyDeleteChieko San -- I'll bet if the pilot game was in Japan and not cities of Europe you'd be lots better.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Edberg is concerned he was a fine gentleman, a good sportsman and a wonderful player.
ReplyDeleteThe way I got here-now-is by clickicking on a link when I started typing in the address (blogspot) and it brought me to this site.
My problem comes when I erase my history which I do every day. See what I mean? HELP or GOODBYE, everyone. If I don't make it back, it's been great.
DSG, when you are visiting the site right now, why don't you make a bookmark, maybe this will work
ReplyDeleteDSG - I put the new site in 'favourites' and get to it direct that way.
ReplyDeleteyes, bookmark, or favourites it.
ReplyDeleteclick on this new TP site
good luck
